Happy Sabbath Saints,
Let’s look at resilience today. It’s the key to facing life’s challenges. Resilience is the ability to
successfully adapt to difficult or challenging life experiences. It’s the quality that allows a
person to be knocked down by aversities and come back at least as strong as before, if not
stronger. Some health benefits of resilience are improved emotional and physical health; and
improved management of chronic disease and pain.
People who focus on making their thoughts and inner dialogue positive, show lower levels of
pessimism and fewer symptoms of depression. So don’t give up, you can do it! Philippians
4:13 says, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” More resilient people have a
realistic perspective, are direct in approaching more difficult situations, take an active approach
to life, and think: “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” Less resilient people tend to overthink, shy away
from in-person interactions, have a passive mindset, and think: “It is what it is.” 2 Timothy 1:7
says, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self-control.”
Resilience helps you laugh in the face of tough times, remember your purpose and meaning,
reconcile what has happened to you. It helps you find a way forward in adversity, provide
support to others, and stand up for your beliefs. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 says, “We are afflicted in
every day, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken;
struck down, but not destroyed.” Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the
strength of His might.”
